Marriott Marquis Finally Breaks Ground in Washington, D.C.

After nearly two decades of legal disputes, developers and city officials broke ground on the Marriott Marquis project in Washington, D.C. on November 10, 2010. The hotel is scheduled to open in the spring of 2014 with 1,175 rooms and over 100,000 square feet of meeting rooms. It is estimated to cost between an $520 million and $550 million. The Marriott Marquis will be located next to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, and is expected to create 1,600 construction jobs and 1,000 hotel related jobs upon completion.
