The U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development both released new residential construction data for October 2013.
According to the report, building permits of privately-owned housing units were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,034,000 for October 2013, up 6.2 percent from the September rate (974,000) and up 13.9 percent from October 2012 (908,000). Authorizations of single-family homes in October were at a rate of 620,000, which was 0.8 percent above the September rate (615,000). Permits of units in buildings with five units or more were at an October rate of 387,000.
Unfortunately, due to shutdown of the federal government in the beginning of October, data collection for both housing starts and housing completions in September and October were not available in time for the latest report.
